Close to home, far from the light.
A Voyage is a small-group retreat in the American West built around the night sky: one to four days of canyons, desert and stars, with astrophotography coaching if you want it.
These are the trips we run closest to home, out of Las Vegas and southern Utah. Days are for the good stuff, red rock, water, quiet trails, and once the sun drops we head for the darkest sky we can find. With a whole group in the dark it stays fun, and you leave with a few shots worth showing off, or just a night you will not forget.
Small groups keep every night quiet.

What a night under the stars feels like.
Whether you're a lone adventurer, don't travel much at all, love seeing the night sky and milky way or have desire to escape a city to see it for the first time; Abdul and Anna have got you covered! I've been on almost all of these tours so far and loved every bit of it. Always really cool people that come along and we always have a great time hiking beautiful places, and photographing the night sky. I usually travel alone doing stuff like this but going on these tours you don't really need to plan or think about all the logistics besides getting yourself to the rendezvous for the most part. Also, being in the middle of nowhere in the dark by yourself is scary but on these adventures we're with a whole group and have so much more fun talking under the night sky. For as long as I have money to spend I will go on as many tours as I can and has been worth every dollar. I highly recommend coming along on any or all of these adventures that you're able because Abdul and Anna are some of the coolest people I know and they have become experts of providing unique memorable stargazing and travel adventures.
Anna and Abdul are such incredible hosts and organizers. The entire trip was thought out with so much detail, and it was incredibly exciting, plus everything we saw was gorgeous. Don't think twice about signing up for a Camp Howdy!
I took a trip with Starlight Voyages and I felt very welcomed as a hijabi taking her first solo trip! I was able to stay in my own room and space in a large cabin. The cabin location made me feel comfortable and safe. The trips within the expedition were well organized, fun and informative. I learned a lot about different aspects of night/stargazing photography and the national parks within Utah! Already planning my next trip with them and encouraging more of my Muslim hijabi friends to join inshAllah!
I saw the milky way for the first time in my life! I couldn't believe what I was seeing, truly one of the most profound experiences of my life.

Voyages, answered.

What exactly is a Voyage?
A Voyage is a short, small-group retreat in the American West built around the night sky: one to four days of canyons, desert and stars. You travel with Abdul and Anna, and coaching is there if you want it, whether you bring a camera or just a phone.
Do I need a camera, or any experience with the night sky?
No. Every Voyage is pitched at complete beginners and up. If you would rather just look up, that is more than welcome. If you shoot with a phone, we will help you grab a few shots worth keeping, and if you already shoot the night sky, there is plenty of darkness and time to go deeper.
When do the Voyages run?
We schedule nights around the new moon, when the sky is darkest and the Milky Way shows best. Dates change with the lunar calendar each year, so check the trip pages for the current windows.
Where do we stay?
Camp Howdy is a private villa inside Zion National Park with room to spread out, and the Utah workshop is based around Kanab. Both sit close to the dark-sky country we drive out to, so you are not wasting the best hours in the car.
How much do the Voyages cost?
Voyages start at $1,750 per person for a multi-day retreat, with the total depending on the trip and whether you share a room or take a private one. Full pricing and room options are on each trip page.
Is there an age minimum?
Yes. Group Voyages are for adults 18 and over. If you want to bring children or a younger family group, we arrange it as a private tour built around your party, where kids are welcome.
